Well the bird thing seemed to be going well for us, until last week when we noticed that there seemed to be a lot of activity in one of the nests. To our surprise we found that the momma Zebra Finch managed to hide the fact from us that she had laid eggs and they had hatched.
Upon first inspection we believed that there were two little chicks in the nest. We of course began to observe them on a very frequent basis, then one evening when we were looking in the nest we found that one of the birds must have two heads because instead of four eyes looking at us we saw six, this came a quite the shock to us both, but we managed!
On Saturday, one of the birds decided it was time to move on and try its fling wings when we saw the little guy out of the nest we did what all good pet owners do when they have no idea what they are doing, we called Karries boss the vet and asked whet to do. She informed us that we should place the bird back in its little hut style nest with its brothers. This did not work out so well, we tried all kinds of things but he did not want to go back in, so we left him by the time we came back from dinner all three birds were sitting on the bottom of the cage trying to learn how to fly, this is when we realized that there were still two more in the nest. Count them 5 birds!
We do have a sad update to the story the "slow" one managed to drown himself in the bathing water, upon closer inspection of him we found that he seemed to have a tumor and would most likely not have survived much longer anyways. I guess survival is still quite often something for the strongest.
